MICAfé, May 21: How diverse is the Frisian media?

Friesland is diverse. But to what extent do the Frisian media reflect that diversity? Who gets a voice—and who doesn’t (yet)? During this MICAfé, we’ll explore how the media can contribute to a more inclusive and vibrant narrative of Friesland. In collaboration with Omrop Fryslân and the June 30 / July 1 Committee.

About underrepresented groups in the Frisian media

In this edition, Ingrid Spijkers (Omrop Fryslân) and Gabriëlle Copini (June 30 / July 1 Committee) share their perspectives on representation, inclusivity, and the role of the media in this context. How can we ensure that diverse voices and experiences are seen and heard? And what does that require of editorial teams, content creators, and the public?

We’ll discuss this together and wrap up with a philosophical reflection by Roel Klopstra on Frisian identity and the concept of “diversity.” And, of course, there will be music again—this time by Basile Maneka.

Afterward, there will be time to chat informally over drinks.

What is MICAfé?

During a MICAfé, we tackle a substantive topic that is relevant to the creative industry, media, or communication. We have a speaker and music, but above all, we engage in conversation with each other.

MICAfé = 1 hour of content + 1 hour of drinks
