Training courses at MICA

MICA is not a training program in itself, but it does offer space within its walls. It is a location and a network where a number of training programs have found their place. We work together with whatever training program is needed at that moment to do and create beautiful things. And there are a few training programs with which we collaborate on a regular basis. You can read about which training programs these are on this page.

Media design at Firda

The students are working on designing and creating digital and printed media communications. These include brochures, posters, games, websites, social media, apps, and animations. They collaborate with professionals from various fields, such as media management, marketing communications, and ICT. Together, they create various creative media communications and develop their skills.

Creative Business at NHL Stenden

The Bachelor's program in Creative Business trains students to become managers in the media industry. They focus on creative media content as well as management and entrepreneurship. They learn how to use media to make an impact on the target audience and create value for the company they work for or their client. In addition, they also work on hard skills: the basics of production, how to develop a concept, put together a magazine, and market media products.

Minor Media Concepts & Sustainability at NHL Stenden

Media Concepts & Sustainability is a minor at NHL Stenden (Creative Business) that has been based at MICA since September 2025. This minor is a sub-branch of Creative Business and creates media products based on scientific theories and research. These media products aim to bring about behavioral change; they must really make a difference in people's behavior. In this way, they want to make the world a little bit better. They do this together with partners such as Kumasi and Provec. The minor is very internationally oriented; the students come from all over the world. The different cultures within the minor make it a vibrant learning environment.

Start-ups at MICA

The Creative Business Club is a network of student media companies in and around Leeuwarden. This club is linked to the Creative Business program at NHL Stenden and operates based on the philosophy of the NHL Stenden Center for Entrepreneurship. The CBC organizes events and offers office space at MICA. The CBC's co-working space is called the Start Up Community. Start-up companies entering the field from Creative Business are given a place here at MICA to develop and grow. All kinds of facilities are offered here to help the companies with this. We offer the structure and community of a permanent job, but with the freedom and independence of working for yourself.
