Friesland is becoming increasingly diverse, but that diversity isn’t always reflected in the Frisian media. Who gets a voice? And how can we ensure greater representation and inclusivity? During the MICAfé on May 21 in Leeuwarden, we’ll be discussing these issues with students, creators, and media professionals.
The media play a significant role in how we view one another. They determine which stories are highlighted and which perspectives are heard. In a region like Friesland, where identity, language, and culture converge, it is essential that the media present a broad and inclusive picture of society. During the MICAfé, we will explore how media can contribute to greater inclusivity in Frisian media, and how editorial teams, creators, and organizations can make conscious choices in their stories and platforms.
During the event, Ingrid Spijkers (editor-in-chief of Omrop Fryslân) and Gabriëlle Copini (June 30 / July 1 Committee Fryslân) will share their insights on diversity and representation in the media.
During the MICAfé, philosopher Roel Klopstra will offer reflections on Frisian identity, diversity, and social change. What does it mean to be part of a diverse society? And how do we deal with different perspectives?
The MICAfé is a recurring event in Leeuwarden that focuses on current topics related to media, communication, and the creative industries. The gatherings are designed to foster connections, inspire participants, and encourage the exchange of perspectives.
By engaging in dialogue about diversity in the Frisian media, we are working together to build a more inclusive media landscape in Friesland. The media have the power to connect stories, broaden perspectives, and highlight change.
