“How cool that the agency that created ‘Wij eisen de Nacht Op’ is actually based in Leeuwarden.”
“I danced with a robot dog. Really cool.”
“How awesome that there’s an agency that’s totally design-minded, just like me.”
“I talked to the Fryske Vlogger!”
These are just a few comments from visitors at the afterparty for Open Agency Night in Leeuwarden. And that’s exactly what it’s all about: discovering what’s happening in the city in the fields of marketing, communication, design, photography, and video—and who’s behind it all.
During Open Agency Night, 10 creative and digital agencies in Leeuwarden opened their doors to the public. From campaigns and design to technology and content, visitors got a behind-the-scenes look at work that’s often closer than you think. For example, you could attend a podcast at Agoeie with the Frisian vlogger, AI presentations at Junction, a Q&A about “Wij eisen de nacht op” by GHO, freelancer presentations by Mooiedingenmakers, a creativity masterclass and live performance at Compion, and the MICA Hub served as the hub for Team VV, Brandmerkc & Okkinga Communicatie and Zaga Digital Agency, where students could play XXL games and chat with colleagues from the agencies.
The evening showcased the diversity of Leeuwarden’s creative scene and highlighted how important it is to make that diversity visible to students, creators, and curious visitors.
The evening kicked off at MICA, which had been transformed into an XXL playground. Twister, Connect Four, and Jenga were played to the fullest, but the pizzas from Pizafari and the evening’s personal souvenir—the photo from FeestPhotoBooth—were also a hit. Our alumnus Ricardo Veen took professional LinkedIn photos, which can be downloaded here. With the atmosphere of MHB AV, music by Monsieur Dupon, and contributions from partners Simplicate and Probo.nl, it was an evening where creativity was not only visible but also palpable.
Open Agency Night highlights how important it is to connect talent, agencies, and the public. It’s precisely by literally stepping inside organizations that space is created for new encounters, inspiration, and opportunities. And it doesn’t stop in Leeuwarden. On Thursday, April 23, we’re doing it all over again—but this time in Groningen! New city, new agencies, new encounters. Check out the agencies participating in Groningen on Instagram. Will you be there?
