New immersive media courses from Firda in Leeuwarden

Firda is launching two new vocational training programs in Leeuwarden that respond to the rapidly growing world of immersive media and creative technology. The Immersive Designer and Immersive Technician programs prepare students for a field in which creativity, design, and technology converge.

The Immersive Designer program focuses on creative makers who design stories and experiences using technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), 3D, and interactive media. Students learn how to combine digital and physical worlds to create compelling experiences.

The Immersive Technician program focuses specifically on the technical side of immersive media. Students learn to build interactive installations, program virtual worlds, and create technological systems that are used in museums, festivals, games, theater, and education, for example.

A characteristic feature of both programs is that students work extensively on practical assignments from companies and cultural institutions. This allows them to work on real-life projects from the professional field while still studying.

Connection with MICA

Within the Media Innovation Campus Leeuwarden (MICA), immersive technologies such as VR, interactive installations, generative AI, and new forms of storytelling are already being used. The arrival of these courses therefore fits in well with the development of Leeuwarden as a place where creativity, technology, and innovation come together.
